이화대학 캠퍼스의 지형도를 바꾼 이화캠퍼스 복합단지(Ewaha Campus Complex,ECC)
지하이면서도 지상인 듯한 독특한 설계로 이루어진 ECC는 하나의 건축물을 벗어나 캠퍼스 자연 경관과 어우러져 새로운 풍경으로 다가온다. 학생들이 학교에서 더 많은 시간을 보낼 수 있는 최고의 환경을 갖춘 캠퍼스가 필요하다는 것이  ECC 프로젝트의 시작이었다. 2004년 2월 ECC 국제현상설계 공모를 통해 선정된 프랑스 건축가 도미니크 페로(Domonoqu Perrault)가 설계한 ECC는 이화로 통하는 길이자 학습의 장이며 소통과 만남의 공간이다. 도미니크 페로는 파리의 랜드마크로 알려진 프랑스 국립도서관(1995),독일 베를린올림픽 싸이클 경기장(2002),러시아 상트페테르부르크 마린스키 극장(2003),룩셈부르크 EC사법재판소(2008) 등을 설계한 건축가다, ECC는 그가 아시아에서 시도한 첫 번째 프로젝트로 2005년 공사를 시작해 2008년 4월 문을 열었다.

이음파트너스는 ECC의 Wayfinding과 Environmental Graphic를 수행 하였다.
ECC는 건축물이라기 보다 조경에 가까운‘Campus Valley'와 ’Campus Garden'이 가장 중요한 계획적 요소이다. 땅 속에 매립된 건물들은 지형이 솟아 보이는 효과를 준다. 6층짜리 건물은 서서히 상승하는 자연 지형과 맞물려 길게 이어지는 경사로를 따라 지어져 있다.그러나 중앙을 중심으로 양분되어 대칭구조를 이루고 있는 건축의 공간적 특성은 자칫 이용자의 혼란을 초래할 우려가 있는 구조적특성을 갖고 있다. 우리는 길게 이어진 경사로의 연결통로를 중심으로 양분된 건물이 상호작용하여 하나의 공간으로 인식되면서도 대칭구조의 건물을 직관적으로 인식하여 방향성을 유지할 수 있도록 공간 커뮤니케이션 체계를 구축 하였다.

Ewha Campus Complex changed the topography of university campuses around world  with an unusual design that makes underground seem like overground, ECC goes beyond being a building to be a new landscape that harmonizes with the natural background. The ECC project started with the idea that students needed the best campus environment where they could spend more time.
Selected through the International Design Competition in February 2004, Dominique Perrault’s ECC is a place of learning and a space for communication and meeting. Dominique Perrault is known for his design of numerous works of architecture : the French National Library(1995), famous as a Parisian landmark; the Olympic Velodrome and Swimming Pool in Berlin,Germany(1992); the New Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg,Russia(2003);and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg (2008).ECC was his first project in Asia with construction beginning in 2005. It opened its doors in April 2008. 

 
YiEUM Partners, Inc. was responsible for the ECC wayfinding and Environmental Graphics at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea.
The ECC is a ‘terrain-ian’ structure that blends seamlessly and harmoniously with the hills of the surrounding natural landscape. The architectural concept placed the six story interconnected structures on either side of a long access-way that symbolizes a ‘Campus Valley’ with a ‘Campus Garden’ located on the rooftops on either side.  The unique architectural characteristics, along with the complexity of the internal layout of the structures, posed many challenges for its users and visitors. We designed a spatial communication system that intuitively unifies the structures as a singular space by interacting with the structures along the central access-way.
